Biography of Tammie Pace

 

Ms. Tammie Yvonne Pace is a retired veteran of the Houston Police Department. After twenty-two (22) years of public service, she retired as a police captain. Prior to joining the ranks of the department in 1983, she was a City Marshal, where she was one of the few females charged with the task of executing municipal warrants throughout the city of Houston.

She possesses a Bachelors of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Houston and a Masters of Science degree in Criminal Justice Management from Sam Houston State University and she has a well-rounded background in patrol, investigative and supervisory positions. However, her dedication to public service extended beyond the borders of the police department. She is one of the founders of Project Redirection, a program instituted in several public high schools and targeted high-risk, low-income young women for the purpose of developing educational and life skills. She has also received numerous awards and commendations, including but not limited to:

  • Officer of the Year for Community Service
  • Houston Chronicle's Officer of the Week
  • Houston's Finest Law Enforcement Award
  • Young African American Achiever Award
  • Acres Homes Citizens' Achiever Award
  • House of Representative Congressional Public Service Recognition

The Mayor of Houston officially proclaimed March 12, 2003 as Captain Tammie Pace Day and in November 2003, the National Congress of Black Women presented her a Leadership Award in recognition of her service to the Houston Police Department, the city of Houston and its citizens.

Tammie has not only distinguished herself as a leader, but she is also a trailblazer in the field of law enforcement. In 1991, she was the first female in the history of the department to be appointed to attend the prestigious FBI National Academy. In 1998, she was the first female lieutenant ever to be assigned to the Training Academy. During Black History Month of February 2003, she was promoted to the rank of police captain and was the first African-American female ever to attain this rank.

Tammie has professional experience as a college instructor, a law enforcement consultant, a security consultant, a mediator and is a motivational speaker. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., numerous professional organizations and the Brookhollow Baptist Church, under the spiritual leadership of Pastor/founder Ralph Douglas West where she is actively involved in the Pastor's Accountability Tracking Team, Decision Time Counseling and the Prayer Line Encouragement ministries.
